Car Insurance In The Usa?
i’m from the UK and planning on taking a across america roadtrip, and thought it would be cheaper to buy a car when i first arrive and sell it again before i leave.
1. being from the uk would i be allowed to buy a car not being a US resident?
2. how does car insurance work and what sort of cost is car insurance?

1) yeah, the guys of Top Gear did it so why shouldn’t you.
2) Expect to pay at least $3.5k for liability only. I am not sure what you mean when you say “how does it work” as it works like a car insurance. For one, It’s a paper that says to the cop that this briton may drive, but it serves further purposes in case of an accident.
Rent a car. Do not buy one. If you buy a new a new car in the U.S. and sell it, you will lose several thousand dollars, no matter how short a time you keep it.
Car insurance normally costs several hundred dollars. However, because if you have never previously had a driver’s license in the U.S. or Canada, it will cost more, probably several thousand dollars.
I am from the UK and it was my business to buy about 50 (or more) quality USA cars each time I flew over there, so
1) I can’t see what would prevent you from buying one.. common sense probably
since
2)just the money you’ll spend in insurance will be enough to pay for a rental car or even better you could
3) drive other people’s cars across the states (read the book “on the road”)
just make sure you are in possession of an INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE when you get there, you know, one with a picture
I would rent. Only because you may have a difficult time selling the car when you are ready to leave. It may work though, if you 1; buy a car that is not too expensive and 2; if you have someone here who could sell the car on your behalf if you haven’t sold it when you have to return to the UK
I suggest you watch an UK program called TOP GEAR, run by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, they often go to the USA, buy AMERICAN cars then ahum… test their … haw haw haw steering qualities on the road.
These british geezer-s can do it, so can you.. go baby go just don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!
It will probably be cheaper to rent a car with unlimited mileage and get the insurance from the rental agency.
